The White Swan ... the story so far.
When The White Swan re-opens its doors it will be thanks to the trememdous effort and ambition of local people to save the last pub in the village.
There has been a pub on Gressenhall Green for more than 250 years, but in 2018 last orders were called and the doors closed.
With the threat of the site being redeveloped for housing, the Save Our Swan campaign was launched by village residents to raise money to buy the pub for the community.
Fundraising events and our pop-up pub, The Cygnet, helped raise awareness and money prior to a community share offer launch in September 2020. Community shares were bought by 430 investors, and others contributed their valuable expertise and skills to support the campaign.
With the added help of a generous grant of £50,000 from The Plunkett Foundation and a £50,000 loan from Key Fund, the pub was purchased in January 2021 and work began on its transformation.
Builders and volunteers have been hard at work on site, stripping out the fixtures and fittings and redesigning the interior spaces to provide more room and better facilities.
Outside, the old Cartshed is being renovated and a wood-fired pizza oven installed to create a fantastic seating and dining area.
There is still much to do before we open our doors later this year, but we know that with the hard work, encouragement and commitment of our community we will succeed.
We look forward to welcoming you to The White Swan late 2021/ early 2022.
